The History of Glory Art Works
Glory Art Works was founded in 1995 by Joan Cherrington to provide art training that would enrich the education of homeschool students. As it became evident that children who attended a school during the day also wanted more art; Glory Art Works expanded to include after school classes.
The program begins in September and continues through May as one skill builds on the next. There are four different levels. The Beginning Class is for children 7-12 years old while the Advanced Class is for children 12-18. The Intermediate Class is an option for students who have completed two years in the Beginning Class but are still too young for the Advanced Class. After completing two years in the Advanced Class, students are eligible for the Independent Studies Class. Each level is a two year program. Students may join in either year. The entire program can be completed in six to eight years.
The curriculum developed by Joan is academic, teaching the classical foundations of art. In a cheerful home environment, students learn to draw and paint realistically using the elements of line, shape, value, color, texture, form and space. Advanced students add to their skills by applying the principles of composition and color harmony to their artwork.
Each class is taught once a week. The classes are an hour and a half each for younger children and two hours for older students.
